The economic impact of liberalization of barriers to trade in services in the Europe and Central Asia regions - RESEARCH GRANT COMPETITION

The World Bank Institute (WBI http://wbi.worldbank.org/wbi) and the Economics Education and Research Consortium (EERC http://www.eerc.ru ; http://www.kse.org.ua) are pleased to announce a RESEARCH GRANT COMPETITION on
The economic impact of liberalization of barriers to trade in services in the Europe and Central Asia regions.

We invite you to submit a research proposal related to this topic. We are especially looking for research that:
* Has a clear research question which is academically relevant and adds to the existing academic knowledge on the topic of investigation.
* Is policy relevant and leads to policy lessons that are of interest to an international audience.

The deadline for applications is April 16, 2010.

The best research teams will be invited to present their projects at the EERC RESEARCH WORKSHOP on June 25, 2010 in Ukraine. Representatives of projects must attend the workshop in order to be considered for a grant.

GRANTS of up to $14,000 will be awarded to individual researchers or small research teams (up to 3 persons) for up to 12 months. Grant size will depend on the specific budget requirements of the project. We plan to select approximately 4 research proposals.

Proposals must include the following five components:

Application form (download here) clearly specifying the project title, names of principal researchers, mailing address and e-mail contact addresses (very important, as e-mail will be used for follow-up requests and questions).
An abstract of no more than 200 words outlining the significance of the research and the methodology to be used.
A research proposal with reference list of no more than 10 doubled-spaced pages showing sufficient familiarity with the topic and methodology to provide confidence in the project's successful completion.
CVs of all principal researchers.
A budget in USD showing expenses in all categories. While the categories will vary from grant to grant, they should, where applicable, include as a minimum: Salaries and other compensation for the grantee(s) (including payroll taxes and fringe benefits); Salaries and other compensation for research assistants and clerical personnel (including payroll taxes and fringe benefits); English Editing Fees; Grant-related travel (for research purposes - no conference travel will be granted); Equipment and/or data/software Purchases; Materials, supplies, telecommunications charges; Institutional Overhead (limited to a MAXIMUM of 10%).

All applications must be submitted in English.
